The Details
Porsche’s 911 Dakar represents a return to one of the brand’s most storied and improbable chapters—off-road rallying. Inspired by the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally-winning 953 and limited to just 2,500 units worldwide, the Dakar isn’t merely a tribute car—it’s a fully realized reinterpretation of what a 911 can be when engineering ambition is allowed to wander off-piste.
The chassis, raised 50mm over a standard Carrera 4 GTS and equipped with a lift system offering an additional 30mm of clearance, sits on Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires mounted to forged wheels. Porsche’s active suspension management, rear-axle steering, and dynamic engine mounts remain, but the calibration has been reworked entirely for broken terrain. The result is a 911 that can crest dunes, eat up rutted gravel, and still run a back road with the fluidity expected of any car bearing the crest.
Beneath the vented carbon fiber hood lies the familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six from the GTS, producing 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed through Porsche’s 8-speed PDK and sent to all four wheels via the brand’s proven all-wheel-drive system. New driving modes—Rallye and Off-Road—alter the power distribution and traction control behavior, while a bespoke Rallye Launch Control allows for controlled wheelspin on loose surfaces. Even the roof features a fixed rack rated for over 90 pounds, complete with integrated auxiliary lighting—visual and functional nods to Porsche’s rally past.
This 2024 Porsche 911 Dakar is a delivery-mile example, showing fewer than 300 miles from new. Finished in Paint-to-Sample Shade Green over black interior with matching Shade Green deviated stitching, it is one of the most desirable and distinctive color combinations offered. Inside, the optional Rallye Sport Package adds fixed-back carbon fiber bucket seats, lightweight glass, and subtle interior refinements that underscore the car’s competition-inspired intent.
As one of the rarest 992-generation variants—and the only one engineered specifically for off-road use—the 911 Dakar is a high-water mark for Porsche’s design and engineering philosophy. Like the Carrera RS, 959, or GT2 RS before it, the Dakar blurs the line between motorsport and road car, pushing the limits of what a 911 can be. This exceptionally specified, near-delivery-mile example offers collectors and enthusiasts the rare opportunity to own what may well become the most collectible—and most unconventional—911 of the modern era.
